Transitioning From Sisal To Sustainable Agroforestry In Tewe

For years, families in Tewe Village depended on sisal farming. Still, as markets declined, incomes followed. GiftTrees' support of Forest Focus Plant to Stop Poverty (PSP) initiative is helping the community pivot toward a more sustainable future.

Planting Drought-Resistant Trees For Long-Term Income

In April 2025, across 113,000 square meters, 60,000 drought-resistant trees, including jackfruit, passion fruit, papaya, lemon, avocado, mango, and guava, were planted in sandy, well-drained soils suited to agroforestry.

Restoring Land And Strengthening Livelihoods

These trees restore degraded land, improve soil health, and offer a reliable income from fruit and timber.

In a region facing water shortages and deforestation, Tewe’s project demonstrates how climate-smart agriculture can strengthen both land and livelihoods.
